PostSubject: Guidelines for Posting a Thread Here   Tue Oct 07, 2008 12:54 am

Hi all,

Seeing as how certain topics here have kind of gotten out of hand lately, I thought it would be a good idea to perhaps make some guidelines on what kinds of posts and threads are allowed here so there are no further misunderstandings, hurt feelings, etc.

Since this is the Debates and Serious Discussion forum, all topics of such nature can belong here. However, one should post here with the understanding that although this is an online community, there are real people behind these user names with feelings and their feelings as well as their opinions should be respected. Sensitive people are advised not to post in this forum or better yet, to ignore it entirely but this is not mandatory.

Just about all kinds of topics are allowed here but let's try to avoid topics that are of a sexual or highly violent nature, as this is a gaming community and members of all ages have access to it.

Also, please be careful of how you word your posts. Although at times, you may feel that you are not intentionally trying to offend or hurt members, sometimes the wrong wording can give off a negative tone and evoke such hurt feelings. If there is a post that causes confusion, please send a PM to that member and discuss the matter privately.

In addition, if there are certain topics or subjects that a member wishes not to be brought up, please respect his/her feelings on that matter. I've had to lock up a couple of topics here in the past because someone failed to respect the feelings about the matter and brought up certain subjects that were best left not to be brought up.

If any of the above are violated or we feel that any of the threads in this particular forum are going down a path that will eventually cause anger and/or hurt feelings, the admins and mods have the right to do one of the following:

1. Post a warning in that thread for it to cool down.

2. Send PMs to the parties involved warning to let the matter die down.

3. Locking up or deleting the thread if it causes too much controversy. (This can apply to deleting posts within a thread as well.)

So these are all the rules that apply for now. Now let's get back to some fun debating. Wink

I think that's a bit strict, and might slow down the facilitation of serious discussion, especially debates, where two peoples opinions clash and regardless people can have their feelings hurt.

However, I'll do my best to make sure I don't inadvertently say something that could be hurtful.

@Anarch:

Well, we really didn't want to have put such rules/guidelines in place but recently, there have been a couple of threads that have gotten out of hand. But we won't institute any of the 3 actions I posted unless the situation becomes serious. Wink

I've had quite a lot of experience now going on different sites and all and there are some places which have, unfortunately, handled such situations very badly and resulted in members getting hurt and even to the point of leaving. I wish to prevent that here.

If you do want to discuss this further, please feel free to send me a PM. Smile

isn't it if you entered a Debates and Serious Discussion thread you should be ready for your feelings be hurt. if you don't have the guts then why would you have a debate right. but still this rules are great.

@Aya:

I have to strongly disagree with you on this one. People can engage in debates in a mature manner without feelings being hurt. Take a look at how political debates are handled.

@all:

Please if you have any issues with these rules, send Love or me a PM about this. We've had no option but to do this due to recent threads getting out of hand. Please respect the rules as they are. They're in place for everyone's sake.

Locking up now.
