PostSubject: Resources for Game Development   Sun Jun 08, 2008 4:59 am

Hi all,

I thought that it was about time to make some resources for developing games available to all. I got the following information from another site that I frequent-Hanako Games.

From Hanako:

Novice Level - These tools do NOT require you to know much about programming!

http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/RPG_XP/eng/ - RPG Maker, for making games like old NES RPGs. Comes with a bunch of free graphics. (Free demo, costs money)

http://www.renpy.org/wiki/renpy/Home_Page - RenPy, for making games similar to Fatal Hearts (without the puzzles) (Completely free)

http://www.clickteam.com/eng/mmf2.php
- Multimedia Fusion, which can make lots of kinds of games in a weird
graphical-timeline development system (I haven't used it. Free demo,
costs money.)

http://www.yoyogames.com/make
- Game Maker, can make all kinds of games with either a simple
drag-and-drop interface or a programming language when you're ready for
it (Free version with restricted features, pay for all features)

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/ - Adventure Game Studio, for making adventure games like the really old Sierra ones. (Completely free.)

Not-so-Novice Level - You need to know some programming for these

http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque/tgb/ - Torque Game Builder

http://www.phelios.com/ptk/ - PTK Game Engine

Not Yet Existing

http://metaplace.com/
- Metaplace, a cool project to let people build their own online...
thingies. It's not done, though, and no idea when or if it will be.

More Resources (Courtesy of DavidDaKing)

TGE, Torque Game Engine: http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque/tge/

Advanced version of Torque Game Engine: http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque/tgea/

You will have to make your own 3-D models.

Blender, which makes games and 3-D models:

http://www.blender.org/

RPG Maker VX:

http://tkool.jp/products/rpgvx/eng/index.html

Same as XP but with chibi graphics.

More resources (courtesy of Aya_Alexa):

Verge 3.1
~ is a game maker like aracade. Although originally intended for RPG's
it has since been proven to work with all forms of known games. (free
Demo, cost money)

Sphere ~ is a game maker like RMXP.

More resources (courtesy of seraphic22):

RPG Toolkit(free,
Open Source) is like RPG Maker but with it's own scripting language.
The scripting language is much more integrated than it is in RPG Maker
VX/XP; it is also much more powerful.

You can add TGE, Torque Game Engine, http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque/tge/
And the advanced version http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque/tgea/
Those are preety tough softweres for me, and you will have to make your own 3-D models.
Theres Blender, which makes games and 3-D models. http://www.blender.org/
Theres also RPG Maker VX http://tkool.jp/products/rpgvx/eng/index.html
Same as XP but with chibi graphics which are awful for my taste, but thats my opinion.
